Stephen Larson is an expert on the intersection between computer technology and biological systems and is interested in how computer systems can help us to understand fundamental principles of life. He served as the Chief Information Officer of One Mind for Research, a non-profit dedicated to eradicating brain disease by transforming the healthcare research system through public-private partnerships. He has worked as a professional software engineer for a major New York City investment bank, co-developed a patent, presented at more than two dozen forums, published in academic journals such as Frontiers in Neuroscience and Nature, and has had his work featured in the New York Times, The Atlantic, Wired, and MSNBC.com. His diverse educational background includes a bachelor of science and master of engineering from MIT in computer science as well as a Ph.D in neuroscience from the University of California, San Diego.
Giovanni Idili, Founder and COO of MetaCell, is a software engineer by trade and entrepreneur by vocation. Before founding MetaCell with Stephen and Matteo, Giovanni has worked as a software contractor for companies such as Rockwell Automation, Snap-on Diagnostics and Wellpoint. His professional experience focuses on leading analysis and development of large scale web-based software solutions, working with sizable teams. Throughout the years Giovanni co-founded two startups. Giovanni earned a Bachelor degree in Electronic Engineering at Università di Cagliari, Italy, in 2005, and a Master degree in Computer Science from Cork Institute of Technology, Ireland, in 2010, where he was recognized as the best MSc student by his university in his year. His research interests focus on software applications of Artificial Intelligence and Complexity Theory.
Matteo is a software architect and entrepreneur. He worked for many years in the software industry gaining tremendous experience in designing and building solid large-scale software platforms and co-patented technologies. Matteo worked as Principal Research Associate with the Department of Neuroscience, Physiology and Pharmacology at the University College of London to build Open Source Brain, a Wellcome Trust funded platform to share and develop computational models of neurons and networks. Throughout the years Matteo co-founded three startups. He earned a Master in Systems Engineering at the École Normale Supérieure de Cachan in 2005 and a Master and Bachelor degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Cagliari (Italy).
Andy is a technical consultant and an advisor to MetaCell. He has a deep understanding of the business / IT interface advising business leaders in multi-national corporations on IT strategy and implementation. He has led high performing engineering teams delivering mission critical enterprise class software systems to clients. Andy has extensive cross domain and cross functional experience and has been a founding partner in two successful startups. Andy holds a Bachelor of commerce from the University of South Africa and a Masters in Business administration from University College Dublin.
